Why we built remover.dev.

For years we were happy users of remove.bg. It did one job well, and a lot of our own scripts and plugins were built around its API.

Its standalone site and self-serve API are scheduled to stop on 1 December 2026. We are grateful for what it taught all of us about how simple this tool can be, and we wanted that workflow to keep a home.

So we built a successor of our own. The browser tool runs open models on your device, so photos are never uploaded. The paid API keeps a familiar request shape, so an existing integration can move with a small change. remover.dev is an independent product and is not affiliated with remove.bg or Canva.
