remove.bg’s site and self-serve API are shutting down.

After 1 December 2026 at 09:00 CET, the standalone remove.bg site and its self-serve API stop. Photos you still want to cut out by hand can stay in the browser here: nothing is uploaded.

Scripts and plugins that already speak that request shape can send it here. POST /v1.0/removebg and GET /v1.0/account use a familiar header and the common fields, so the move can stay small. Purchased credits do not expire. The API plan’s monthly credits reset.

  1. Create a key. Create an API key on the pricing page. A new email receives 5 test credits.
  2. Send the request here. Use https://remover.dev where the client currently uses https://api.remove.bg. The path and the common fields stay familiar.
  3. Read the image. POST /v1.0/removebg answers with image bytes. The header is X-Api-Key.
